The Fibre Media Converter (FMC) Kit is the new add-on from Fluke Networks that allows you to use your Link-IQ to test and analyse fibre optic links. This kit allows you to identify and resolve problems related to fibre port connections, providing information on the application, switch name, port name and any configured VLANs. Below are the main features of the kit:
- Fibre Port Testing: The kit allows you to test fibre optic network ports with any LinkIQ™ tester. It is compatible with 1 Gb/s (1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX) and 10 Gb/s (10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR) fibre Ethernet ports. It supports the use of media converters and SFP modules (1G/10G) with both single-mode and multi-mode fibre optic cables.
- Connection Verification: When testing a connection via the FMC, the “Network” test provides results indicating whether an Ethernet connection exists on the downstream device (usually a switch) and whether IP traffic can be sent to downstream targets. This data refers to the connection to the media converter, not the fibre connection. If you receive a ping response, it means that the network is active and the target is responding correctly.
- 10G and 1G kits: The 10G kit includes 10 Gb/s and 1 Gb/s media converters, a power bank, cables for charging and powering the converters, SFP modules (1000BASE-LX, 1000BASE-SX, 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-SR), single-mode and multi-mode fibre optic cables, an RJ-45 cable, and a protective case. The 1G kit includes a 1 Gb/s media converter and similar components.
- Portability: The power bank included in the kit allows you to use it on the go, making it easy to solve connectivity issues wherever you are.
The Fluke Networks Fibre Media Converter Kit is therefore an essential tool for ensuring that fibre optic networks remain operational and efficient at all times, simplifying fibre connection diagnostics and providing detailed information for network administrators.
